Inarticulate Ramblings

If you didn’t know and there is no reason you should, my family has suffered the sudden death of our mother some time on the 28th February 2017.

This loss was made infinitely worse by its circumstances, which have been covered in some detail in the news so I will not be going into them here.

Here I am trying to shape how I have and am reacting to this. I don’t expect anyone to read this or take interest but I need to express things somewhere, maybe after some thought and maybe after no thought as it takes me. I just need to empty my head or what is inside there.

I went back to work today for the first time since getting the news. Not sure if that was a good thing or not but I really needed to try to do something routine as just sitting at home staring at the walls or checking the news sites was not helping either. I didn’t last long but at least I made a start, I was there for about 5 minutes before I started to cry. I did start to catch up with some of my work and left after about 2 1/2 hours.

The people at work were great, no prying but offers of support and condolences and I will be trying to get back to some normal working from Monday.

I am still pretty much all over the place, numb, raging, crying, laughing inappropriately and wanting to vanish completely from the face of the earth.

Grief is a strange thing.

Food thought

Tonight I am writing about food.

The first thing I will write about are devilled kidneys. I have just discovered them and they are my new favourite food both for breakfast and supper. (Yes I have eaten kidneys for breakfast channelling my inner Edwardian.)

Anyway the recipe I used is this one http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/devilled_kidneys_58867 it is quick, easy and really very tasty. I add a little cayenne pepper and use corn flour instead of plain but the rest is as the recipe says.

They work very nicely on thick crusty toast for breakfast and with rice for supper.

Now rice, cooking rice is easy. All you need is reasonably good quality rice and a saucepan with a lid. The trick is to know the correct proportions of rice to water. Also don’t use easy cook rice, that stuff is horrible.

The proportions of rice to water are easy 1 cup of rice to 1.5 cups of water. I know all the recipes say about washing the rice until the water runs clean, you can do that but I don’t.

Put the rice and water in a decent pan and put the lid on. Now you have to be brave you cannot take the lid off until the cooking is done. If you have a pan with a transparent lid things are easier.

Put it on a low heat and let it cook, you must not take the lid off you need the steam to build up in the pan to cook your rice properly. If the lid is see through you can see when all the water has been absorbed then turn off the heat and let it stand for 10 minutes or so. Again do not take off the lid during this time. If the lid is not see through I normally find that it has absorbed all the water after about 10 – 12 minutes.

The rice is then ready fluff with a fork and serve.

Happy eating 🙂

If you have wandered here either by design or mistake may I just say

Welcome to my Blog of Stuff

Here is where I will write about stuff.

Nothing too serious and I am under strict orders to not get ranty about things.
So I will be mainly covering random silliness, my very very amateur photography and gaming.

Anyway that’s it for now, back soon, have a good one
